Dell sues web designer because he has the same name.

That's it! I am no longer a fan of Dell computers! (not that I really was to begin with). But this is insane. There's a guy named Paul Dell and he designs web sites for a living. So he set up one for himself at www.dellwebsites.com. And no Dell Computer Corporation - a multi-billion dollar corporation, is trying to sue him for hundreds of thousands of euros (i have no idea what it comes out to in real money). Anyway, the link below will take you to his support page. He needs help to fight this legal battle. I donated 5 euros, and I hope some of you guys will too.

You know I do it to get your feathers ruffled. :)

Usually you have to be Microsoft in order to win business-vs-human name battles, especially if you were born before 1980 so YOUR name came before THEIRS.

Somehow I recall Dolby Labs getting upset with singer Thomas Dolby (his given name) at one point. That ended amicably, since one uses Dolby stuff to listen to Dolby's stuff... :-P

But it hasn't been so amicable with the International Olympic Committee going after any business that had the word "olympic" in their websites' domain name for copyright infringement despite the businesses having nothing to do with athletics. Pizzerias, paint manufacturers, etc. got "cease and desist" letters and the domains got transferred to the IOC. This story was from 2-4 years ago with previous Games, not in conjunction with the 2006 Games. They had no problem with "Olympus" because that's a place, and I'm sure the camera maker is happy about that.

Best of luck to Mr. Dell -- the web designer, not the computer retailer. Much like the Dolby case, you use a (Michael) Dell computer to get to a (Paul) Dell website.
